In Situ H2 Reduction of Al2O3-Supported Ni- and Mo-Based Catalysts

Nickel (Ni)-promoted Molybdenum (Mo)-based catalysts are used for hydrotreatment processes in the chemical industry where exposed to high-pressure H2 at elevated temperature. In this environment, catalyst transforms into active phase, which involves reduction of oxide. Here, we report on first situ study alumina supported Ni- and Mo-based 1 mbar using ambient-pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (APXPS). The confirms that mixing Ni Mo lowers temperature both Mo-oxide as compared monometallic shows MoO3 starts a lower than NiO NiMo/Al2O3 catalysts. Additionally, foil was directly Al2O3-supported it observed is more gradual foils, indicating strong interaction between Ni/Mo support.
